Club Sierra abruptly closed its doors this morning. Owners, Mike and Margie Blackston, put a sign on the door telling their members to go to the South Yuba Club.
New owner of the building Phil Carville says “We discovered this at 6 a.m. this morning when a flood of Club Sierra members surged into our Nevada City and Grass Valley clubs. It was a surprise to us and to those members.”
We did not cause this closure. The Blackstons had until the end of the month to move out in an orderly manner. They have not paid the full rent amount to the previous owners of the building and were in arrears for years. Also they did not pay the rent to this month to us as the new owners.
We wanted to work out an orderly transition for their members, but apparently the Blackstons just collected the dues for March and then closed the doors. Under California law they are obligated to return the unused portion of any pre-payments made by their members.
We want all Club Sierra members to know that the South Yuba Club has their backs. Even though they paid their dues to the Blackstons, the South Yuba Club will honor their membership at our Club without additional charge.
It is unfortunate that this event occurred. It did not have to happen this way. The Blackstons chose to have it go down this way.
