Collision Between Jeep and Dirt Bike Seriously Injure Bike Rider

A  hit and run accident involving the driver of a 1999 Jeep Cherokee developed into a  major injury  accident involving a dirt bike rider.  CHP Officer Greg Tassone says they received word of the accident at 5:10 p.m. Saturday evening on Tyler Foote Road just north of Cruzon Grade.

Officer Tassone says the driver of the Cherokee was driving too fast for the curves and loose surface of the road in the area, and lost control around a sharp curve and ended up crossing into the lane of two  dirt bikes that were going eastbound.

There were major injuries caused in the collision and the driver of the Jeep Cherokee briefly made contact with the riders and, under the guise of going to get medical help, left the scene and did not return.The injured rider was transported by air ambulance to the Sutter-Roseville Trauma Center.  Later  the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 37-year-old Benjamin Newcomb, of Nederland, Colorado, returned to the scene.

The driver of the  2011 KTM Dirt Bike is identified as a 38-year-old man out of Camptonville.  He is still listed with major injuries at the hospital .
