Conservation Mandate Officially Gone For NID

The water conservation mandate for the Nevada Irrigation District has been officially eliminated. Up until Friday, it had still been 33-percent. But last month, the State Water Resources Control Board approved local controls. And, based on NID’s report, submitted this month, of much healthier supplies, the Board reduced the standard to zero. But NID Operations Director Chip Close says he doesn’t expect customers to be using much more than they did a year ago, when the 36-percent mandate was still in place…

Lawn watering is also no longer restricted to two days a week. But Close also reminds customers that some portions of the Governor’s emergency drought declaration, from last year, will remain in effect permanently, with fines still possible for excessive violations…

Close says conservation is still a very important tool in managing carryover water storage for future years.
