Control Burn Near Smartsville Gets Out Of Control

A control burn got out of control yesterday for Cal-Trans crews, which also resulted a brief voluntary evacuation advisory for about 15 homes. Public Information Officer John Hotchkiss says it was originally going to be a 200-acre training exercise on land at the University of California Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center, north of Smartsville. About 180 acres have gone up in smoke, with 75-percent containment. Hotchkiss says there does not appear to be much potential for any further growth…
