Controversial Newtown Canal Upgrade Approved

The canal is the main source of water for the Lake Wildwood Water Treatment Plant, which supplies NID treated water users there, as well as in Penn Valley. But some nearby residents say the canal, which has been in existence for over a century, helps prevent flooding. Scherzinger says the district has been working with these people…

Scherzinger says water quality will also be improved, since the current open canal is exposed to animals and aging septic systems. The 1-point-1 million dollar project is scheduled to begin early next year and will take about three months to complete.
