Just in time for Veterans Day, a presentation was made by Nevada County Veteran Services Officer David West to the Board of Supervisors. He says over eight-thousand veterans live in the county, with 22-percent receiving some sort of VA benefit, which is slightly down from the state average. But with only three full-time staffers this year, they’ve still managed to process around four-point-seven million dollars worth of claims…
Meanwhile, West says coronavirus challenges have made it difficult to recruit a replacement for a longtime staff member who retired, with the vacancy lasting ten months…
But to help improve outreach, West told the Board they’ve created a virtual platform on their website. West also told the Board that they recently received a 75-thousand dollar state grant for operations, as well as a 97-thousand dollar grant over three years to help with mental intervention efforts.
