Nevada County’s two ballot measures didn’t fare so well. Measure I, the parcel tax increase to fund additional fire protection in the Higgins Fire District received 58 percent of the vote, but needed two-thirds to pass. Fire Chief Jerry Good is understandably disappointed….
The tax would have gone to 240 dollars. Measure J really surprised Penn Valley Unified School District officials. The bond measure would have raised 16 million dollars for school improvements, but is losing 62 to 38 percent. Superintendent Torie England-Gibson says that’s not how the vote was supposed to go…
The bond measure, which would have added over 28 dollars in property taxes per one-hundred thousand dollars assessed value, needed 55 percent approval.
