County Continuing to Push for Caltrans Priority

Since Nevada County Transportation officials discovered last June that Highways 49 and 20 had been removed from the Cal Trans list of High Priority Highways, efforts have been underway to get that designation restored. Nevada County Transportation Commission Executive Director Dan Landon says elected officials and private citizens sent letters to Caltrans during open comment, but they got no response.

Landon says NCTC has already invested $6Million toward developing the completion of Highway 49 improvements from the north end of La Barr to McKnight Roads. He says in about 4 years they would need right of way funding and a year after that construction funding They would be looking to share the cost with Cal Trans. Landon estimates the costs at between 20 and 35 million dollars.
