County Expected to Move Forward with New Corporation Yard

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on  a Use Permit- Land Use Designation to allow work to begin on a new Corporation Yard for the County at their meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. Nevada County Public Works Director, Steve Castleberry says the current yard the County has on Loma Rica Rd. has been in place for 40 to 50 years and has outlived it’s usefulness.

Another problem with the Loma Rica location is that it’s above the snowline. When road crews need to get out in a big snow event, it slows down their ability to roll out and respond to emergencies quickly..

If the Supervisors approve the new use permit it would clear the way for the county to hire an architect to design the new facility at property the county has already purchased on La Barr Meadows Rd. on the old Bear River Mills Property by Rare Earth and Hansen Brothers.
Castleberry says the new Corporation Yard could cost between $8 and $12 million dollars to build and if all goes well they could be moving in by the spring of 2018.
