County Library Gets Air Quality Grant

Why would a library be eligible for an Air Quality grant? The answer- to reduce air pollution by reducing the number of vehicles that drive to the library.  The Nevada County Public Library continues to receive a grant from the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District to increase online resources so people will not have to drive across the county to check out books.

County Librarian Jessica Hudson says the library is receiving 15,500 dollars to expand it’s e-book selection.
Hudson also says that the county is receiving another 35,000 dollars to install a library kiosk on the San Juan Ridge.

The kiosk operates kind of like a “Red Box” video rental unit. Patrons swipe their library card and then can checkout a selection from the 500 titles that will be available. A library volunteer will visit once a week to restock the kiosk and rotate materials as needed.

Hudson encourages patrons to offer suggestions for future books and resources that the library can purchase.
