County Offers Mental Health First Aid Courses

CPR is a life saving measure that ordinary people can administer in an emergency if someone is having a heart attack. Now there are options for a similar type of response for someone experiencing a mental health crisis. Donna Hendrich with Nevada County Mental Health Services says there is a training for non-mental health experts to learn basic responses and support for a mental health crisis.

Skills taught during the two day training include a variety of interventions or responses a person can implement if they come across someone experiencing a mental health issue.

Classes are focused on adults, and a consolidation of materials will allow changes to be made to scheduling workshops.

An upcoming class schedule will be available soon. A course focused on children’s issues is also in development.
