If you voted at a polling place in Nevada County last November, you may remember those electronic devices poll workers were using when you checked in. They are called electronic poll books, and it looks like they are here to stay. County Clerk-Recorder Greg Diaz has just written a report about the devices, and says they made things easier for everyone…
Diaz saw the e-poll book machines used in Humboldt County in 2013, used them in some polling places as a pilot program in June of last year, and went ahead full steam with them in November. Diaz says there’s some upgrades he’d like to make for the next election cycle…
The electronic poll books show where every voter’s polling place should be, and can even give directions if the voter shows up to the wrong location on election day. It can also tabulate voter turnout turnout quickly, and even calculate when and where voter turnout is the heaviest. The device is mostly for poll workers, but the voter has to sign in on the device with an electronic pen.
