County prepares for Dollar General Store’s EIR Study

The Environmental Impact Reports for three proposed Dollar General Stores in Western Nevada County should be starting soon, now that the county has finalized a contract with Michael Baker International to produce the EIR’s. Dollar General wants to put stores in Penn Valley, Rough and Ready and Alta Sierra. Brian Foss is Nevada County Planning Director and says the applicant will pay the fee charged by the consultant plus an additional ten percent to cover administrative costs.

He says no county funds will be used, and the county maintains oversight.

The proposed stores are located in County Districts 2, 3 and 4. Dan Miller, who is the Supervisor for District 3 says people in Rough and Ready seem to want the Environmental Review.

Hank Weston, who represents District 4 says his constituents in Penn Valley also want the study done to address some issues, and likewise for the Dollar General Store that is proposed in Alta Sierra in County District 2.
