Nevada County’s Pubic Health Departments are preparing for National Public Health Week.
Public Health Director Jill Blake presented an update to County Supervisors Tuesday on the growing list of county public health programs and efforts to receive National Public Health Accreditation. It could take another year to complete the application but Blake says having the accreditation could mean more funding for public health services.
Currently there are only 4 accredited Health Departments in California, and Nevada County hopes to join them soon. Nevada County’s Health Officer Dr. Ken Cuttler also presented information on Nevada County’s health factors, such as smoking, exercise, nutrition, access to care and physical environment. Nevada County ranked 7th overall. Dr. Cutler expresses one area of concern.
Dr. Cutler says binge drinking is also one of the county’s main issues.
April 4th through April 10th is National Public Health Week and each day during our KNCO morning interviews from 8:40 to 8:50 a.m. that week, Public Health Department workers will address different public health issues. This year’s theme is Healthiest Nation 2030.
