County Seeks Financial Help for Lester Trial Defense

Nevada County may have found a way to get some financial relief for the cost of providing public defenders for the fraud case against Gold County Lenders CEO Philip Lester and CFO Susan LaFerte.   The State  attorney general’s office took over prosecution of the case because of conflicts of interest at the county level.   The argument has been that the State should  cover the defense costs as well.

Nevada County Board of Supervisors Chair Nate Beason says he met with the state Department of Finance in Sacramento about a week ago, and yesterday he testified before the Senate Budget Committee.

Beason says the Budget Subcommittee is meeting today for a vote.  if the Senate Budget Committee approves the $600,000 request it still must be approved by the Assembly Budget Committee.
