County Tech Center Moving Forward

A new Collaborative Technology Center (CTC) is in progress at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City. Construction is almost complete at this time, with carpeting and ceiling tiles installed, walls painted, and the breezeway between the main library and the addition complete. County Chief Information Officer Steve Monaghan says rehabbing modular buildings verses building new construction was a cost effective way for library expansion.

The cost for using the donated building was approximately $86 per sq ft.  In today’s market the cost for the County to construct this addition would be an estimated $275.00 – $300.00 per sq ft. No long term County debt was required.
The center will have much improved access to technology resources.

The Library and Tech Center will also be connected to the internet via a very fast 1 gigabit connection.

The CTC is slated for opening to the public in late July or early August and a Grand Opening will be scheduled and announced soon.
