County to Consolidate HHS Services

A big consolidation is coming for a number of Nevada County Heath and Human Services Agencies. Each agency will keep its independent function but County Chief Financial Officer Martin Polt says under a new lease agreement, the departments will share office space at the Brighton Greens Business Park on MCourtney Rd. at Highway 20.

Currently those agencies are spread out in offices throughout the county. Supervisor Ed Scofield noted that’s not very convenient for people who receive services  from multiple agencies.

The 5 year lease will cost the county $366,000 in the first year.  Nevada County Facilities Manager Tom Coburn says moving costs are estimated at another $320,000.

The lease is for 20,000 square feet and during public comment local resident Rich Ullery stated he thinks that’s too much space.

County officials say the additional space is needed to accomodate the clients who come to the center for services.
Renovations to the office space will get underway and the projected date for move in is June of next year.
