Nevada County Residents who are the food assistance program known as Cal Fresh will be getting something extra this summer. The County Social Services Department has partnered with ‘Dial 2-1-1 Nevada County’ in a pilot program to allow low income householders to eat healthier. County Social Services Director Mike Dent says each household will get a voucher that can be used at Farmers Markets…
The E-B-T money is the money they normally get for food in the form of an electronic card. Dent hopes that the program will see an increase in fruit and vegetable sales to recipients…
The vouchers will be mailed out later this month, and can be redeemed at Farmers Markets in western Nevada County. They will be good through the Farmers Market season, which runs into October. Dent says there are about 35-hundred CalFresh participants in Nevada County.
