Crisis Counseling Coming to SNMH

A new program to assist those in a mental health crisis get counseling services as quickly as possible is going to begin in early 2013. The SPIRIT Peer Empowerment Center, the Emergency Department at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, and Nevada County Behavioral Health are partnering to provide Peer Counseling support when a patient experiencing a mental health crisis presents at the Emergency Room of the hospital. Spirit Center Spokesperson, Linda Burns, says the pilot program will provide counselors during peek intake hours of 4:00 PM to 10 PM.

Clients that do not qualify to be admitted to the hospital will have a follow-up call or visdit from counselors the following day.
The SPIRIT Center will be hiring nine peer couselors, two supervisors, and one partime coordinator beginning in January 2013.

The SPIRIT Center, located at 276 Gates Place in the Brunswick Area, was founded in 2003  and offers free counseling services, support groups, training, and social activities Tuesday through Saturday 10 AM -3 PM.
