The act was originally passed years ago to provide timber tax money to go to education, but was scheduled to sunset, with the final money coming in this year. The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County actually sees part of that money, and Executive Director Joanne Drummond says the funding is critical for their operation…

Dahle’s legislation is just an advisory measure, but rural counties in several states are in need of the moey that the Secure Rural Schools Act provides.
