Death Penalty Not Being Sought In Murder Case

The last capital case in Nevada County was in 1981, with the last suspect executed in 1881. But Newell says several other cases have been considered since he joined the District Attorney’s Office. Zafft was found lying in a greenhouse containing marijuana and had been hired to protect the homeowner, who had been the victim of several thefts. Newell says they’re still waiting for the extradition of Philbrook from a Nevada prison. Devencenzi has already been extradited from there. Fultz is still in the Nevada County jail. Newell hopes all three will be arraigned by no later than September 22nd.
