Deer Creek School Involves Community in Read-A-Thon

It’s something they have been doing for several years at Deer Creek Elementary School in Nevada City, and Principal, Monica Daugherty says last Monday they invited members of the community to read to the  students.

So this is the 20th year of the Read-A-Thon, but it’s the second year of having community members  come in to kick off the event and share their reading and love of books.

The read-A-Thon is a 4 week program that gets the kids reading as well as gathering sponsors for how many pages they read. The money raised will support a variety of programs at the school. The goal school wide is to read 4 thousand pages. and, If the students reach the goal the parent teacher club will put on a Carnival day for the children..
