Deer Creek School Read-A-Thon

Police Officers, Firefighters, Executives and some parents participated in a Kick off event for Deer Creek School’s Read-A-Thon this morning.
Community members were invited to bring their own favorite book and read it to the students in grades K-4 at the school that is part of the Nevada City School District.

Deer Creek School Principal, Monica Daugherty says the goal was to have every classroom read to at the same time. Learning by example is one of the most important learning tools to enrich students minds. By sharing their love of reading participants encourage the students to be lifelong learners.

Nevada City Police officer Scott Goin brought his canine officer Rudiger to meet with the students as he read them a story.

Daugherty says several of the volunteers are also parents of some of the students in the classroom, so that was a nice added touch.
