Del Oro Theatre Facelift Ahead

About 70 years since it first opened, major changes to the outside of the Del Oro Theatre in Grass Valley will begin in the near future. But it won’t actually be a brand new look, according to city senior planner Lance Lowe….

The city gives the now three-screen Del Oro Theatre, on Mill Street, a “Historical Resource” rating. A survey says it’s applied to properties that retain good integrity, with some loss of historic fabric, but continue to convey their period of significance and architectural style. The applicant for the project is Sierra Theaters. We were unable to reach the applicant to get a timeline on the improvements. Lowe says no plans have been submitted for any interior upgrades. The city’s Development Review Committee is discussing the application at their meeting this (Tues.) morning.
