Disability Advocates Urged to Attend Housing Elements Workshop

Anyone concerned about affordable, accessible housing in Nevada County  is encouraged to attend an upcoming Housing Elements Workshop presented by the Nevada County Planning Department to share ideas and let their voice be heard.  Principal Planner for Nevada County, Tyler Barrington says all counties and localities are required to update their Housing Elements every five years and Nevada County is doing that now.

Nevada County is looking at potential rezoning to accommodate for  1,270 units. According to the 2009 Housing Element Report, approximately 40% of Nevada County residents were spending over a third of their incomes for housing.  Disability Community Advocate at Freed Center for Independent Living, Justin Harford encourages those with disabilities or interested in assisting that community to attend the meeting.

Written Comments can also be submitted to Tyler Barrington at the Nevada County Planning Department for those not able to attend the workshop.
The Housing element Workshop will be next Tuesday, February 11th at 6PM in the Providence Mine Room B, located on the second floor at the Rood Center.
