It will be well into next year at the earliest before construction can begin on three proposed ‘Dollar General’ stores in Nevada County. County Planning Director Brian Foss says the three stores will be considered as one project instead of being reviewed separately…
There has been vocal opposition to the store in Alta Sierra, and other stores are planned for Rough and Ready and Penn Valley. Those against it either don’t seem to like the type of business or don’t think it fits in their neighborhood. Foss says the number of complaints didn’t directly result in the decision to put all three stores in one report…
Foss says they are looking for a consultant to do the work, and once they find one, it should be about six to eight months to do the E-I-R. There’s no exact time they are looking at, however…
Foss says the Planning Department has received letters both for and against the various stores, and there will be a public comment period later in the E-I-R process. Dollar General does have a store in Grass Valley, which opened last year.

We DO NOT need three more dollar general stores in nevada county. The one in grass valley is quiet as all can be. Locals refuse to shop stores like these. Honestly, ill shop out of town before i shop a dollar general store. I can go to grocery outlet..id rather support. We ruin beautiful country for eyesores like dollar general buildings. The big question is why do we need 4 dollar general stores in nevada county. If there needs to be another--put it in truckee. Good grief. Our community sure has some issues. You would think the taxpayers/citizens would have more say on what is brought in to our community that we all support and live in.........let in 4 dollar generals but lets keep walmart out.?! Good ole kmart and jcp. Hmmm no wonder folks shop out of town. Prices economical and better variety of stores with quality products. Gas is cheaper. Less sales tax. Makes a great day for road trip.
Just something to consider when budget time comes and those revenue numbers keep dwindling.

It looks trashy already. i do not support this. why do we need more Dollar stores in general. i rather support my local community and shop at Briar Patch or SPD even Grocery Outlet. Why is this happening?

I love the Dollar Tree down in Raley's Center and thought perhaps the dollar store would be similar. Went in one time and found it junky and stocking nothing I would purchase. There were only a couple of other shoppers there at the time. I've never been back since because I found it so uninteresting. Every time I go by the parking lot is empty. Are they really making any money?? Perhaps the National Dollar Store wants to go bankrupt??
