Donations from Penn Valley residents help family of wounded soldier

Donations from Penn Valley residents are helping to allow the mother of a soldier from the Nevada County community to be with him while he undergoes medical treatment for serious wounds after a terrorist in Afghanistan fired three bullets into Brandon Walden.

Twenty-year-old Walden is in Texas where his mother, Laura Cummins, is with him.

Laura Cox, a friend of the family, says Penn Valley responded to the family’s situation.

Walden was wounded in July days before he was due to ship out of Afghanistan.  A benefit dinner to help Brandon and his family will be held Aug. 20 in Penn Valley at the Tack Room.
