Donner Party Cadaver Search Historical Society

A Nevada County man with an amazing cadaver search border collie is this month’s guest for the Historical Speaker Night, put on by the local Historical Society tonight. John Grebenkemper says for part of his presentation he’ll talk about how his dog, Kayle, and other cadaver dogs, located human remains scents, a few years ago, at three possible Donner Party camps in the Alder Creek area…

Over a 5-month period in November of 1846, 8 people camped at Alder Creek would die from starvation. That’s in Eastern Nevada County, about 3 miles north of Truckee. The talk will also explore the Donner Party travels from Missouri to California. Meanwhile, Grebenkemper says he and Kayle went to the South Pacific this summer to look for the possible remains of Amelia Earhart…

Grebenkemper says results are not available yet, as DNA testing continues. The Historical Speaker Night begins at 7 this evening at Sierra Presbyterian Church in Nevada City. Presentations are always free.
