The Meals on Wheels program is in desperate need of drivers to deliver a warm lunch to seniors in the community. Julie Carrara with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program says due to illnesses and volunteers going on vacations they do not have enough drivers to deliver all the meals. Carrara says volunteers can sign up to be drivers through RSVP or through the Gold Country Community (Senior) Center.

Meals on Wheels delivers 130 warm meals a day in western Nevada County. Carrara says often times couples or friends ride together to deliver the meals.

There is a great need for drivers on Monday’s Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am to 1 pm. Standby alternate drivers are also needed. Anyone interested in volunteering can call the senior center at 273-4961.
