If you have some old prescription medications to get rid of, tomorrow is a good day to do it. Shelly Rogers with the Coalition for a Drug Free Nevada County says just bring them into downtown Grass Valley. It’s free and confidential, and a good way to keep the medications out of the wrong hands.

It’s part of a national Drug Take Back Day program, which is held a few times a year. Rogers says they’ve collected over a thousand pounds of prescription medications since the spring of last year.

Permanent drop-off locations include the pharmacies at Rite Aid on Sutton Way, K-Mart on McKnight Way, and Save Mart on Nevada City Highway in Grass Valley as well as the lobby of the Grass Valley Police Department. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are taken from a family or friends’ medicine cabinet. Flushing the unwanted or expired medications down the toilet can get pharmaceuticals in the water system. Again, the drop-off is from 10am to 2pm at the corner of Neal and South Auburn Streets.
