Fans of the musical “Wicked” know Elphaba is the name of the Wicked Witch of the West. She’s best known as the green nasty witch who hated Dorothy, and her little dog too, in the “Wizard Of Oz”. I have two lingering memories of this character, 1) she game me nightmares as a child, and 2) her final words in the movie “What a world, what a world! Who would have thought a sweet little girl like you could end all my wickedness”
My sweet little daughter called me yesterday. She lives in Chicago and has spent the past 48 hours moving from one apartment to another. All her stuff is in boxes and strewn about… we’ve all been there and done that right? So, after all the “How is the moving going?” questions are answered and I’m assured that her new place and her new neighborhood are safe she asks me an odd question. “Are you in front of a computer?” You may not know this about radio stations these days, but we are ALWAYS in front of one computer or another….ALL DAY LONG. “Pop”, she asks, “Can you look up a phone number for me online?” My mind goes into instant parental panic mode – Insurance? – Police? – Private Detective? but I stay cool, “Sure kiddo, what number do you need?” She tells me she needs the number for the pizza place they passed while moving! I use a search engine, rhymes with Doogle, and give her the number.
Recapping, Me – Grass Valley, She – Chicago, Food- Pizza. Elphaba said it best – What a world!
