Emergency Systems Get Warm-up Run

Memorial Day weekend brought high temperatures and some practice for local emergency response to wildfire. The Hutto Incident, what turned out to be an 11 acre fire, was close enough to activate the Nevada County Emergency Operations Center. Public Information Officer Taylor Wolfe saying the holiday response was impressive and involved using new technology.

She also says a targeted CODE RED evacuation warning was sent out, based on the technology mapping feature, to the area directly affected by the fire. Fire fighting crews and air support were able to control the blaze in around two hours.
Wolfe says the fire is a great reminder for residents to take advantage of all the county notification and fire readiness materials.
