Emery Withdraws from State Senate Race

Nevada County resident Ben Emery has withdrawn from the Nov. 6 election for the State Senate seat that includes Nevada County.
Emery cited a potential conflict of interest because he’s on the board of directors for an organization for the homeless that will potentially work with the sitting state representative who would be an opponent in November. Republican Assemblyman Dan Logue is running against Republican Jim Nielsen in the election that’s also attracted three other candidates.
Emery says he had to choose between the election and his commitment to work with the homeless.
He says he entered the election to spur discussion about issues including rural poverty and public financing of campaigns.
