Every High School Senior in the Nevada Joint Union High School District is required to do a “Senior Project” as part of their graduation requirements. Local students Kevin Schmidt and Shawna Bacon, who are both in NU Band, decided their project would be to put on a Jazz Festival at Empire Mine.

Having a Dad that works for the State Parks helps. But Kevin and Shawna are doing a majority of the work to put on the festival. Don Schmidt who is a supervising Park Ranger at the mine, and Kevin’s Dad, says he is just there to help.

The Event will be outdoors in front of the clubhouse with reserved seating and lawn space to spread out blankets.

The Empire Jazz Festival will be Saturday May 10th from 11am to 4pm The Entry fee to the Empire Mine State Historic Park is $7 adults, $3 children, but the Jazz Festival is free. Preferred Seating will be by donation. Any proceeds from the senior project will go towards the Nevada Union Band Boosters.
