Environmental Review Moving Ahead Pines For Mines

The environmental review process for the Pines to Mines trail system has been given the official go-ahead. Nevada County Supervisors have approved a 100-thousand dollar contract for the Truckee Trails Foundation. In August, after hearing a lot of concerns about the possibility of allowing e-bikes, the Board voted to not fund studying that option. But Tahoe National Forest officials say they’ll still be included, as part of the review, due to legal requirements, using other funding sources. Meanwhile, Nevada City Mayor Duane Strawser told the Board, earlier this week, that e-bike opposition is a fabricated feud from equestrians and based on a lot of misinformation…

But Supervisor Ed Scofield continued to refer to the fact that Pines to Mines was conceived as a non-motorized trail system. The state also does not recognize e-bikes as bicycles…

The assessment is scheduled to be completed by the spring or summer of 2023, with a public comment period to follow, and then the hope that construction could begin by fall.
