Essay Winner Presents at Memorial Day Celebration

Each year the American Legion Axillary Unit 130 holds an essay contest focused on Americanism. Americanism Chairman
Sue Ellen Woerner says that the contest is encouraged at all schools in the county.

The two winners this year are Veronica Rutherford from Magnolia Intermediate School and Benjamin Rondos of Chicago Park School.
Veronica presented her essay, “What does the “Pledge of Allegiance” Mean to Me?”, during the Memorial Day Ceremonies in Grass Valley. Veronica clarified what the Pledge personally means to her.

In her essay Veronica defines the importance of the phrases:
One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, and with liberty and justice for all.

The two award winning students are anxiously awaiting to hear the results from the state level competition.
