ANNUAL SANTA’S SHOPPE EVENT WILL CONTINUE THIS YEAR, WITH SOME CHANGES – HELPERS NEEDED 17 years ago, Trinity Church in Nevada City hosted an event for young children which let them come shop for gifts for their family members. The event quickly outgrew that venue, and Sierra Presbyterian Church graciously started to host it after the first two years. Santa’s Shoppe has become a treasured annual event at the beginning of December. Children from 3 to 11 years can come with their lists and purchase gifts (for a quarter apiece) for their family members, friends and pets (usually up to 6-8 items per child). Each child is assigned his or her personal “elf” (young adult) who assists them in their gift selecting adventure while their family members have coffee and snacks nearby. The gifts are carefully wrapped by a host of volunteers, and the child them takes them home to put them under their tree. Santa flies in from the North Pole especially to attend this event, and it is truly joyous occasion. This year is one of transition. Sierra Pres is not able to host, so Santa’s Shoppe 2026 will be held at the Nevada City Elks Lodge from 9:00 to 12:00 on Saturday December 5th. In order to make this happen, our core group of founders will need help. We are asking for organizations and individuals who might be able to assist with the following: 1) Co-sponsoring the event 2) Providing funds to purchase gifts and supplies 3) Volunteering for event set up or during the event.
