It’s a startling but effective program that is back in Nevada County after a two-year absence. Nevada Union High School, along with the Highway Patrol and numerous emergency agencies will be putting on the ‘Every Fifteen Minutes’ program…
C-H-P Officer Greg Tassone says on the first day, juniors and seniors will gather on the Hooper Stadium football field, and they will see a mock-collision, complete with several emergency vehicles, and even a medical helicopter landing on campus…
It doesn’t end there, though. They actually simulate a classmate dying in the crash, and remove him or her from the student population so they will be missed. Then there’s another assembly on day two…
The program is called ‘Every Fifteen Minutes’ because that’s how often there’s a death due to an impaired driver. Tassone says the program has worked, because that number is more like one every thirty minutes now. The same program is scheduled to be done at Bear River High School next year.
