Extra Free Produce For Some Food Insecure Families

Hundreds of “food insecure” Nevada County families are benefitting from a one-time event designed to improve the availability of fresh produce. The debut of a new program, sponsored statewide by the Raley’s supermarket chain, called “Food for Families”, is took place at Interfaith Food Ministry in Grass Valley Friday morning. IFM Exective Director, Sue Van Son, says the store is hosting a Farmer’s Market for roughly 200 of their client families. Raley’s says 23% of the “food insecure” in Nevada County are children and families are far less likely to eat a nutritionally complete diet. Van Son says food stamps are usually not enough and hunger also affects job choices…
