The Nevada County Fairgrounds hasn’t had one in 15 years, but that is changing this weekend. They are hosting a gun show. The Grass Valley Outdoor Sporting and Gun Show runs both tomorrow and Sunday. There hasn’t been a gun show at the fairgrounds since 2002, shortly after Laura Wilcox and two others were shot to death by a person with mental health problems. Fairgrounds C-E-O Rea Callender says he’s taken a neutral stance on the issue, but thoroughly checked out the event promoters…
Callender also says the event has met with little opposition, although there were about five people who spoke against it at a recent board meeting…
No one is allowed to buy a gun at the show and take it home that day–there is a ten-day waiting period and background check required. Callender says there are about 50 vendors at the show, and only a handful of them actually sell guns.
