Family Dog Dies in South County Fire

Multiple fire units responding this morning to a fully involved garage fire at a home in the 19-thousand block of River Crest Court near Brewer Rd in the Lode Star area. Nevada County Consolidated Fire Chief Jim Turner says they were able to get the fire under control before it had a change to spread into the wildland.

The homeowners 9-1-1 call came in at 5:34 this morning. Captain Turner says the homeowner didn’t know there was a fire at first.

Shortly after that he heard another pop and got up to investigate where the noise was coming from. When he opened the door to the garage he was faced with heavy smoke and high heat.

Unfortunately the family dog was in the garage and died in the fire, but there were no other injuries. Nevada County Consolidated engines 88 and 89 out of south county responded along with engine #1 from the Brighton Street station which is jointly staffed, and 2 Cal Fire engines also responded.
