Famous Marching Presidents turn 25

By Ashlyn Rhodes

Nevada City’s Famous Marching Presidents turn 25 this September. The Marching Presidents are a group of people dressed as every US president and first lady from George Washington to Barack Obama.  Marching Presidents founder David Parker says the group, which is the only one of its kind in the US, has marched in every Constitution Day Parade since they were started in 1988.

The Marching Presidents and their first ladies dress in appropriate period attire and are a foot-bound favorite of parade-goers. You can participate in this bit of living history September 9th by helping David Parker to fill a few vacancies. The Marching Presidents are looking for presidents and first ladies Taylor, McKinley, Carter and Nixon, as well as a first lady for Andrew Jackson. To volunteer, call David Parker at 477-3359.
