9 years ago a new friend invaded our lives.  Copper showed up at our house attached to our youngest son.  A skinny red dog, with a sweet smile.  He said he found her and asked if we could keep her?  After a search for her proper owner we said she could stay.  One of the things that made it easy for us was what a good girl Cooper was right from the start.  She never had an accident in the house, and nightly would put herself to bed in our son’s bed.  She wasn’t a jumper, a barker or a whiner.

We learned her breed was a Black Mouth Yellow Cur, a working breed which explained her ability to go all day with a teenage boy.  Cooper learned fast and was happy to play fetch by the hour.

She loved other dogs.  When we brought home a chihuahua puppy, Copper adopted him as her own puppy.  The two of the were so much fun to watch.  As little Oliver fell sick with an untreatable meningitis, Copper would sit with him and keep him warm.  When Ollie passed, Copper walked around lost.  Until we replaced Oliver with little Bella.  And a new best friendship was born.  Chihuahuas aren’t known as fetchers very much, Copper taught both these dogs the joy of playing fetch.

About 6 months ago Copper was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her abdomen.   Last night Copper decided it was time to go play fetch with Ollie some more.
