It may seem that high speed internet is taking it’s slow, slow time reaching all of Nevada County. But John Paul, the CEO of Spiral Internet in Nevada City says things are still happening outside of public view.

The Middle Mile project was funded by a Federal stimulus grant to install fiber optic cable basically from Bakersfield to Colusa, on a path through Nevada County.

Paul says Spiral has plans to use it to bring internet service to those who cannot get it now.

Spiral Internet is still awaiting funding from the California Public Utilities Commission to get the project going, but Paul says it could start soon.

Paul says the entire 3-phase project is projected to take 6 to 7 years to complete, but people can go to the Spiral website now to see if they are in reach to get internet.

Paul says phase 1 of the project will create 70 to 80 jobs as they begin to build the internet infrastructure.
