A woman who has yet to be identified perished in an accident and fire this morning on Highway 49 just south of Lone Star Road. Auburn area CHP Officer David Montijo says the accident occurred at 8:15 a.m. this (Friday) morning and closed the Highway in both directions for about one hour. He says the woman, believed to be in her 60’s, lost control of her green Subaru Outback as she was driving northbound on Highway 49.

Passersby pulled the woman out of the burning vehicle but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Placer County Coroner’s office has not released an identification of the woman. The driver of the Toyota, 59 year old Anthony Savelly of Grass Valley was taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital with what were described as major but not life threatening injuries.
