It’s a very rare occurrence in Nevada County, and now two separate investigations are underway into the shooting death of a suspect by Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies. 35 year-old Dustin Kirk was fatally shot early Tuesday morning at a home on Brookview Drive, after he was involved in a physical altercation with his mother. Sheriff’s officials say Kirk pointed a gun at the deputies, which led to the fatal shots fired by deputies. Nevada County District Attorney Cliff Newell says the Sheriff’s department is investigating whether the deputies acted appropriately, while the D-A’s office will do their own investigation…
Newell says the most recent officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of a suspect, was in 2011, just over five years ago…
In 2012, Grass Valley Police were involved in a high speed pursuit that resulted in a shootout with 61 year-old Rod Dankers. It was later determined that Dankers killed himself, but that investigation took about six months to complete.
