Few Cases Linked To Resigned Detective Dismissed

Less than 5 cases out of around 80 cases linked to a former Nevada County Sheriff’s detective still under investigation for misconduct were impacted. Newell says in most instances there were multiple officers involved in those cases who could testify to the same information.The cases were potentially tainted, due to accusations that Hollitz had an inappropriate relationship with an informant and had allegedly used that person to set up another infomant who had declined to cooperate on an investigation. Hollitz later resigned. Meanwhile, Newell says Hollitz had also made misconduct allegations against another officer. But Newell asserts that officer had done nothing wrong…

Newell says it still has not been determined if any charges will be filed against Hollitz. None of the cases involved violent crimes and most were related to drugs, with Hollitz at one time part of the Narcotics Task Force.
