Few COVID Doses Wasted Despite Demand Drop

Although the demand for coronavirus vaccinations has gone down significantly, few doses have been wasted in Nevada County. Public Health Director Jill Blake says the latest data they have is from May 25th. She says over 22-thousand shots have been administered, with only 83 unused, although most of those in recent times. She says a number of shots are contained in one vial. So, when supplies were more limited, when vaccines first became available, they wanted to make sure the entire vial would be used before opening it. Now, in order to increase vaccinations, and with an abundance of supplies, the state is not as concerned about vials that aren’t completely emptied…

Statewide, wasted doses have also been only a fraction of the total delivered, or around 31-thousand out of 39-million. The data does not include vaccines given out by pharmacies, which have been receiving them directly from the federal government.
