Fire Burns Near Brunswick Basin P G & E Substation

A fire that broke out in a field behind the PG and E substation off Plaza Drive Monday evening drew large response because of the potential threat. Nevada County Consolidated Battalion Chief, Jim Turner says  units from Grass Valley, Nevada City and Cal Fire Fire departments arrived to find about a quarter acre fire burning in moderate fuels grass and brush-land and had extended up into the trees and the fire had come in contact with the wood fence around the P G and E Substation. Quick action had the fire knocked down within 8 minutes.

In looking for a cause to the fire Chief Turner says they discovered a number of cigarettes along a  a trail through the field and Grass Valley police have reported transients in the area.

A lot of the people living in apartments on the other side of the PGand E substation also frequent the trail to get to the Brunswick Basin.
