Fire Chief’s Last Day on the Job… Sorta…

As Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department  gets ready to welcome their new chief on Monday, Grass Valley Fire Department Chief Tony Clarabut is serving his last official day on the Grass Valley Fire Department today.  City Manager Dan Holler says because of restrictions of the CALPERS Retirement system, Chief Clarabut’s last day was set for July 31st.

Chief Clarabut will not be going entirely into retirement.  He has agreed to serve as the department’s administrator as a volunteer until mid-August to give the city time to fill the Fire Chiefs position.  Holler says there have been some developments in that direction by the city council in closed session. and an announcement is expected soon on the direction they will take for a new Grass Valley Fire Chief.
In the mean time ….Nevada County Consolidated’s new Chief  Adolf Zubia who was selected by the District Board of Directors at their regular Board meeting on July, 18th 2013 to become Consolidated’s new Fire Chief will spend his first day on the job next Monday.
